Meet Emily, our newest VISTA!

Hi! I’m Emily Oglesby, the new VISTA member at MAP, here to help build and refine sustainable marketing and fundraising practices. Yesterday I got a great introduction to the organization–I was lucky enough to share my first day at the Clubhouse with the new class of first-time playwrights, whose plays about the relationship between music and social change will be performed in April! Meg and I walked over to D’Abate in the afternoon to pick them up from school. Then, back at the Clubhouse, we played some ice-breaking games before they settled in and got down to the business of the hour: laying out ground rules and engaging in creative activities that will form the foundation of the playwriting to come. The kids picked objects or people in the room and wrote detailed backstories for them called character outlines. The results ranged from funny to sweet to moving, and often all three–the students’ creativity and enthusiasm is already inspiring me to work harder and think outside the box. I feel so lucky to get to spend my days in the warm, inviting, vibrant atmosphere of the MAP Clubhouse, and I look forward to a wonderful year!
